  1. 1.6 the thing is 1.6 is EOL so no new updates so it will not be fixed by valve if I read correct.
  2. the point is not to have it going from 100 to 0 but the server shuting down gracefully asap after the ups detecting the power being off. you would be using a minimum of power from the battery. you would only set the settings to power off immediatly instead of waiting.
  3. The wear and tear of this application with a ups would be miniscule at best worst-case you swap a 10-20$ battery about every 2 or 3 years instead of every 4 or 5 years. Either way as nka pointed out that server should be on a ups either way. The problem with a cron job is that it is a timed event not a triggered event so if you at all deviate from "normal" working hours then the server goes down in the middle of someone working. If unraid have something like Ifttt you most likely can set up an event trigger that will monitor your vms and shutdown the server when both/all are/has been off for x amount of time. but as I do not use unraid I would not know if that exists. It's the last solution I can think of for now tho.
  4. Why would you need to cut the power when leaving? when not in use the server could not be consuming so much power as to make it a problem so the best soulution is just to let it stay on all the time. Otherwise can't you just put the unraid server on a UPS and tell it to send the shutdown message to the server when the power is cut?
  5. Is the connector rotatable on the microUSB version? thinking about phones like the 2013 nexus 5 that have the reversed microUSB connector. it would be stupid to not be able to see the screen while taking the thermal shots.
  6. SMS is not encrypted. it's not the biggest security flaw but still. you can send encrypted SMS's but then you need an app to encrypt and decrypt it.
  7. And if you could read Your consent in this context is that you continues to use their services past July 31st 2014. As it is written in the MSA.
  8. how is this good? If MS is going to look at everything i do and give the info to third parties i consider it to be bad. please tell me how this is good. this outright states that they will be sharing your info and it is info from your mail, one drive, and activity on any windows/MS device. and the only opt-out is to stop using their services. as a Windows phone user i would be left with a fancy phone that i could call with only if i disagrees with this. It is not stated according to what laws they will be operating when sharing info with third parties or what kind of anonymity level you have as a user that they share info on. as i am Norwegian i have read both the English and The Norwegian MSA and while the MSA differs in some aspects between the languages the main problem is that they will share your info and you have no say in the matter. i am for the sharing of info if it is to save lives in the way of hooking the emergency department up with your location if you call them but not for every company MS has dealings with to know if I mail my aunt every other day and what the mails contain. I am not against innovation I am against diminishing privacy ether digital or not. so Please enlighten me as to how this is good. i see the bad and it outshines the good of them trying to save lives. I would even allow automatic scanning of one drive to ensure that it does not contain pirated MS files if they are afraid of that. i even can see that they use bing searches to optimize the search engine because it is down right horrible to use for most things. But my privacy is my privacy and if i can't opt-out it is more than likely bad. i really don't hate MS I have been using it for 16 or 17 years and wish to continue but still have pivacy as i do it. So as I said enlighten me on the good of this.
  9. HI. Found this to day and could not see it posted here before so i will post it. This seems to cover all Microsoft services and from deeper reading into the MSA itself it covers Windows PC, Phone, Xbox and all online Microsoft services. From what i understand Microsoft will share this willy nilly with everyone as long as they can justify it with whatever reason. however funny is that if they suspect you of a crime against them the will NOT spy on you. 10. I have no problems using in home streaming at 1080p over powerline between gaming pc and router and wireless n to my laptop. I was gaming dayz at a stable 40 fps @ 1080p over this conection. There was no noticeable input lag or problems. At the time I was alone at home but there was still other load on the nettwork on the powerline part but the wireless n had only my laptop and my phone connected at the time. I se bo reason that your setup shouldn't work.
  11. My reason for recommending powerline adapters is that if you have many devises running on wireless you will get unstable performance, and high latency. and many people can't run Ethernet ether because they are renting a flat or they live at their parents that wont allow it or if they in theory could run Ethernet unhindered by renting or parents many people can't afford either the work or the supplies as this cost varies from country to country.
  12. i have 3 of those: http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-PowerLine-Adapter-Starter-DHP-309av/dp/B008VOPABG/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1398992474&sr=1-1&keywords=d-link+powerline my home is 1200 sq.ft and 2 floors. one of my powerline adapters are as far as you can get across the house and one floor down from the one that is connected to the router. i have no problems getting a stable and fast connection. I have no problem getting a 100 Mb/s to 200 Mb/s connection on one 2 one powerline and some loss when the third powerline adapter is connected and used. only problem i sometimes get is that one or more of the adapters goes out of sync but that is solved by unplugging and plugging the adapters.
  13. I would go for a powerline solution if you can't run normal ethernet cable. I don't think there is much to gain by going for a new router in your case. I have a powerline setup at home that works fine. The house was built in the 1970's and there is much of the original wiring. Only thing to remember is that if you're home has 3 fase power coming in that the powerline adapters have to be connected on the same 2 fases or it won't work. Remember I live in Norway so it might be different for you in your country.
  14. HI. I am looking into the possibility of setting up a virtual router on one of my hyper-v servers. And since the LTT forum don't have a security section I will ask here. Is this somthing that is ok from a security standpoint or should I always be running the router on separate hardware. My plan is to setup a virtual pfsense box with it's own 2 nics that is only accessed form the pfsense box. The ting is thet the hyper-v server will be running other virtual machines at the same time and while not mission critical applications will run alongside the pfsense box there will be some other less important hobby projects running on the server.
  15. Here is how you do it. 1. Set the dhcp range on router 1 to something like 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.200 2. Disable the dhcp on router 2 and set static local ip to 192.168.1.201 3. Conect the cable from router 1 to router 2 in one of router2's lan ports(many routers have collor coded ports so put it in a port that has several other ports in the same collor.) 4. You should now have both your routers on the same network and the sane ip range from both routers when you connect to them. My experience is that if you name the 2 wireless networks the same with the same password you can seamlessly move about in their coverage range with a smartphone, laptop or other wi-fi device. I woukd think this is the easiest way to do it to make your network most pain free.
