3.5 audio splitter question

I am thinking to connect this splitter on the back of my MBO and connect speaker and headphones in it. Will headphones be always on when connected like that?

Yes but there are probably better ways to do it. For example I have just reassigned the line in port to be an output.

Do you have realtek chip? just click on port and reassign, then I think you may need to set to play 2 different streams
