Zenbook Suggestions

Lisa Bik

I was looking at the ASUS ZenBook 13 UX331UN, 8th gen Intel Core i5 Processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Nvidia MX150, Windows 10

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078T1715R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_U739BbXV4YQ2N

Is this a good laptop? Also, are there any other zenbooks around this price range (preferably lower)which may be better?

i tend to use it for schoolwork, movies, and occasional gaming.

I found another laptop around this price range. Would it perform better than the one above with its i7 processed even though it doesn’t have a dedicated gpu?

UX410 and UX331 are decent models, however just like every laptop, they have their own cons

Where are you from? Budget? Preference on weight and battery life? Do you mind low sRGB display? What games do you play?

I’m from a small country which doesn’t have its own local tech stores, and is far from the reaches of franchising. As a result I just buy my things from the American Amazon store

Budget: 800 or so

Battery life of around 6-7 hours

Nothing too bulky or heavy so something 4 pounds or less

Dunno what low sRGB even means

I currently play low end games like League of Legends; CS:GO; Overwatch; Hearthstone. Would like to get a laptop which can play games which are more graphically intensively my budget allows.

How does this vivobook compare? Is cheaper and has an i7 processor.

I was originally trying to get a base model HP Envy 13 but I was told by someone that it isn’t worth it. Especially since I don’t have a US card and would have to pay my local freight forwarder extra money for them to buy it for me.

Overall build quality - chassis sturdiness

Poor battery life

OK-mediocre input devices

OKish cooling

Some models are slightly overpriced, there are better models such as Swift 3

Are there any problems with the Swift 3 like the ones you outlined of the Vivobooks?

Low sRGB IPS, but that's common in budget laptops

It’s $200 off on Amazon now. I’m seriously considering buying it. But do you know if there are any more ssd slots in the laptop?

Only M.2. The newer model - SF314-54G has upgradable RAM and additional 2.5 inch bay

Do you know if the i7 model has thermal issues because I can’t seem to find any review of it anywhere. It doesn’t seem to be that popular.

Don't get the i7-8550U. No benefit gained due to thermal limitation (not just apply to this model, but also majority of the laptops with 8550U)

How much better would it get by undervolting?

Even with i5-8250U+undervolt, the CPU will still not be able to hold 3.4GHz all core in prolonged loads. Of course there are models which can handle it, but rare
