Im considering folding@home on my gaming pc but during the day i want to be able to use it for games is there a way to where i can turn it off during the day and have it on at night? i have a GTX 680 OC and IDK if that is any good i actually know little to nothing about folding but it seems like something worth while

Yes, you can turn it completely off whenever you want, you can even set it to light folding when you are just browsing in the web or whatever. It's very easy to get started, just download it, set in a username (take a look here: [url=http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userstats]http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userstats[/url=http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userstats] to see if the username you want is available, no need to register, just put on the client), a team (223518 for LTT team), and a passkey for bonus points (very recommended). Your 680 will get beast ppd. There is more info in the forum, take a look around.

so do i get anything for folding? or is it just like volunteering?

Well, it's mainly volunteering, but it's also a kind of benchmark and a competition for points. Right now the chimp challange is going on, we are racing with overclockers.com and it has been a awesome race against evga team. http://chimp.axihub.ca/
