I just built a new PC with an Intel 8700K, 16 GB DDR4 RAM and a GIGABYTE GTX 1080 Turbo. As I was installing the drivers, all went well until I got to the Nvidia driver, it seemed to have installed properly, so I restarted my PC and went back on the GEForce Expirience application, and it still gave me the option to install the driver, then I looked at the device manager and under the GTX 1080 it said "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)". I feel like I tried everything, I made sure the card was installed properly onto the motherboard, I updated my bios, I uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and reinstalled it from the Nvidia website.

This is really pissing me off because I paid about $2000 (CAD) for the parts and I just want to run games smoothly.

It was enough of a pain to build the PC and now I'm having this driver problem.

Do you guys have any ideas on what I should do?

Thanks in advence.

Re seat the card, use another pci slot. Use ddu and perform a clean install.

So doing all of the things mentioned didn’t do anything? Worst comes to worse, install another version of windows. Re seat the cpu perhaps.

Yeah, I may try installing windows again. But I definitely won't reseat the CPU, I'm %99 sure the CPU isn't the problem and the liquid cooler was a pain in the ass to install.

However, I have a small list of things to try when I get home;

1. Uninstall Intel Graphics Driver then Install Nvidia Driver

2. See if there is anything in the BIOS that can help my situation (which I have no idea what to look for lol)

3. cry myself to sleep if nothing works

What version of Windows are you on?

If you are using a older version (e.g. 1709, and the latest versions are now 1803 and 1809), you will run into issues with the newer drivers.

Make sure your Windows is fully up-to-date first.

The OS can be incompatible with the drivers.

I'm quite sure that it is running the latest version of windows, there was nothing to download in the windows updates section in the settings

This is right in the Drivers release notes...

Turing GPU Driver Installation on Windows 10 Drivers for Turing GPUs will not be installed on systems with Windows 10 RS2 or earlier. This includes Windows 10 Threshold 1, Threshold 2, Redstone 1, and Redstone 2 operating systems.

Redstone 1 = Windows 10 1607

Redstone 2 = Windows 10 1703

There is also a few troubleshooting points in the release notes...including...

Damaged or Missing WMI Service Prevents NVIDIA Driver Installation

Issue

“Install failed” or “Install Failed, could not find compatible graphics hardware” message may appear during installation, even if the system has a compatible graphics card. This can occur when installing the NVIDIA driver or GeForce Experience software.

Cause

This issue could be the result of a corrupt WMI service on your system. The NVIDIA Installer requires the WMI service to properly install the driver or other NVIDIA software.

Resolution

You must repair the WMI service on your system in order to successfully install NVIDIA drivers. A future driver release will alert the user during installation that there is a problem with the WMI service on the system.

And other points like...

Quote

Do Not Use Windows Rollback for Graphics Drivers

To reinstall a previous or older NVIDIA graphics driver, do not use the Windows rollback feature. This method will not reliably restore all the previous driver files. Instead, use the Windows Add and Remove programs to remove the current driver, and then install the older driver using setup.exe.

Uninstalling Drivers Using Device Manager is Not Supported

Issue

On all supported versions of Microsoft Windows, uninstalling the NVIDIA driver using the Windows Device Manager may not remove associated files or applications.

Explanation

Microsoft has confirmed that this behavior is by design. If you wish to uninstall the NVIDIA driver, it is recommended that you do so using Add and Remove programs.

See the Microsoft KB article 2278714.
