I have a Lenovo Thinkpad E530c that was just given to me. I'll primarily be using it for Microsoft office, Adobe connect meetings, browsing the web in Chrome, and some Youtube streaming. I just upgraded from a HDD to an SSD. Currently there is an Intel i3-2348M which is 2 cores 4 threads @ 2.3GHz. Surprisingly enough the CPU is just socketed, so after doing a little research on the board and socket, I found I can go up to an i5-3210M which is also 2 cores 4 threads but the clock goes up to 3.1GHz. With this info I have 2 questions:

1. Is the upgrade from the i3 to it worth the 100 bucks the CPU will cost me and,

2. Is there G2 socket processor that has 4 cores that would be compatible?

Thank you for the feedback.

that's like a 50% increase in clock speed, so I'd say it's worth it if the CPU isn't wildly expensive.

at a price like this i think it's worth it.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

I'm not sure if the motherboard would send it enough juice. The i7 is a 35W TDP, the i3 in it is only 23W or 25W. Plus that's a 2 core 4 thread processor as well. So I guess my question really boils down to is the clock speed jump from 2.3GHz to over 3GHz even with the same cores and threads worth upgrading?
