So a little backstory is that I recently got a new laptop and wanted to transfer a few games from my computer to the laptop. I took the hard drive out of the laptop and plugged it into the PC, backed up a few games on there and plugged it back into my laptop. I checked the drive and my backup folder was gone, so I tried copy and pasting the whole game folder into my drive and now that folder is gone as well.

You guys ran into this situation at all before?

With the windows 10 October update came a new issue. This issue in short is causing the OS to start losing the locations of the files on the disk. The files are still there and you can probably report this to Microsoft who should offer you some software which will scan your disk and reinstate the lost files. I hope that this is what's causing your issue as if it's not then the problem may be more serious and require a new disk.

I'd say this is probably the problem and gave them a call, they told me that they are solving this problem and all I could do is wait. Do you know any clean software that can get my files back?

Have a look through here, these are all free and should help you recover your 'lost' files as all you need isnp to find its derectory. Maybe EaseUs might work if you tried copying your drive to an external one and maybe the files will show up on that copy of it. If not the best solution is to sit and hope nothing else gets lost in the meantime while Microsoft patches the problem in a week or so.
