Computer freezing/black screen

I can be on chrome watching youtube or playing a game and all of a sudden my computer will freeze go black then come back in about 5-10 seconds. While in the game when it does this the computer freezes the game crashes and then when it comes back the battle.net launcher is clear with the windows 7 window border around it and when I move my mouse around on chrome at the top it for a split second shows that same kind of windows 7 boarder. The reason why I'm posting here is because I had just recently got a 1080ti off of eBay and my other card didn't have any issues like this.

 

I reinstalled the drivers and it didn't help

I swapped out my old card back in and tested it and it was fine

I put the 1080ti in another computer I had and ran the game, in the same way, I did in the main system and it was fine

I am at a lose

 

Update: I ran a 45 minute stress test and it didnt crash. But to add on to the original topic when it did crash the cpu and gpu spiked to 100%

did you try another pcie slot.

maybe upgrade to windows 10 might be a bug in 7.

is it the 1080ti thats the problem?

I'm on windows 10.

also, I have done a stress test on the gpu for around 20 minutes and it was just fine i figured if it was the gpu being faulty then it would have froze as soon i put it under full load?

I may be wrong but this is sounding like a power supply issue...

What are the power supplies in both computers?

Are they different?

My guess: The one where the 1080ti is crashing is the weaker PSU or the PSU is dying.

my psu is 3 years old now its evga 80 plus gold and i had the same idea but im not sure on it

What is the wattage of each power supply?

they are both 650

The computers are different though or are all the same build core structure?

I mean same motherboard, same cpu, same ram, ect.

one is a i5-8600k oc to 4.6g and the other is a ryzen system 1700

Otherwise would suggest trying the other PSU and seeing if the same thing occurs.

If so then the one that you were trying it on and it was glitching out on is drawing more power than the PSU can handle.

no the i5 is the system thats having issues

I really wonder if it is my PSU because I also can't seem to get my i5 to 5g or even 4.7 stable

What about if you underclock it?

Or put the I5 to stock speed is it stable then?

if it is the PSU wouldn't that 45-minute stress test I did wouldn't it have failed instead? before it went 45 minutes I had tried it and it only made it 8 minutes then the furmark just crashed. and every time something crashes nothing ever says anything about a driver has failed and no notifications about anything actually

the CPU is stable at stock that's no problem its just as soon as it starts going over 4.6 it gets weird

Try the graphics card with the stock cpu settings and see if it runs stable.

Could it be an issue with overclocking the CPU???

What Blizzard games are you playing? I had an issue with Overwatch and Heroes of the Storm blue screening my PC when my old CPU was OC'd. It was a stable OC, only had issues in Blizzard games. Turning the OC off completely fixed it for me.

This is more than likely the issue here if they're playing Blizzard games. I had issues with an OC in my old i7-4790k in just blizzard games. I could do stress tests / play games for over 24 hours straight no problems. In a Blizzard game though, I'd go maybe 20 minutes before I'd get a Blue screen.

it froze again and one thing I noticed is that the game crashed of course and I had youtube open and on the video, it reset the video quality settings

I still think it's the video card.  Can you make sure the fans are spinning, or try the latest drivers.  If still no go and it works on another computer then its your PSU or Mobo.  gl

Last night i put the 1080ti into my other system and used my other gpu which is a 1070 i ran them both for 6 hours in furmark stress test and they both didnt crash. so im gonna get a higher wattage psu and try that if that doesnt work ill do my mobo next.
