PPPoA vs PPPoE

To put it very simple:

They are both protocols for point-to-point communication. Without getting technical, it determines how the packets you send and receive from your ISP (in this case) looks like. You can think of it as a language. PPPoE might be Spanish and PPPoA might be French.

Both you and your ISP need to use the same protocol in order to be able to communicate (you need to speak the same language). That might be the reason why you can't change, because it would be like trying to talk Spanish to a French person.
