2 years ago, I installed a custom loop into my computer.

The pump I am currently using is an alphacool VPP655 pwm model.

When not hooked up to a fan header, it goes at roughly ~30% speed.

It is now moving at a trickle pace.

Does this mean my pump is dying, or could it be something else?

Just on it's own. The loop goes pump>crossflow rad>cpu block>standard rad>reservoir>pump. I worked the tubing to have as few kinks, if any.

Currently, the pump is just hooked up to the power, not a fan header.

The only change to the computer recently that would affect the pump, is I changed the PSU from 850W to 1000W. I even left the power cords plugged into the same connectors.

What PSU are your using and what did you change it from, different cables from different models of PSU's are not compatible with each other.

As for the pump if it's not connected to a header most units will default to running at idle speed or 100% until it has a PWM control signal.

Both PSU's were EVGA, 850GS and 1000G+, specifically.

I have had the pump running, both connected and not, to a fan header. When I had it first installed, it was not on a fan header, and it was running faster then, than it is now.

What is configured for the fan curve, make sure the header you are using it setup as PWM based control and set it to 100% to see what your get. Ideally use a separate computer and have the pump standalone with no blocks or anything.

I was using ASUS AI Suite 3 to tune the fans, and I set the curve for the header the pump was attached to at 100%, and I did not see or hear anything change, in regards to the pump.

The header must be configure to PWM mode if it is to control the speed of the pump and can be done within the BIOS.
