I'm getting an Asrock B450 pro4 motherboard, and it has two M.2 drive slots on the motherboard the fastest though is a PCIe Gen 3 x4 slot. I was going to get a M.2 drive as my boot drive, but I don't know if it'll be compatible with the fastest M.2 slot. I'm new to M.2 drives and don't know how compatibility between them works. Is my M.2 drive supported on my motherboard or do I have to find another one?

M.2 is a form factor, and does not specify the interface.

The MX500 is a SATA SSD, therefore you're not going to take advantage of the max speed your M.2 slot can support.
