Hardware Reseved

I recently purchased another set of ram to go from 8 to 16gb. I got the same 8gb kit that i bought when I initially built the system last year. For whatever reason whenever I have all 4 dimms installed 8.1gb of it becomes hardware reserved. I've tried updating the bios, reseating all the ram, trying them in different slots, trying different stick combos and no matter what whenver i have all of them installed it reserves half. They verified for this board, which might be the problem, but my looking around online has shown me that it can happen even if it is approved for the board. Am i just SOL or does anyone have a suggestion that can fix this issue? I've tried all the common fixes I could find and none of them have worked so far.
