Building my first PC

Go to solution Solved by Fasauceome,

You'll have better experiences at high framerates with an intel CPU, perhaps an i5 8600. However, if that's out of budget, Ryzen will do.

A G-sync monitor is not necessary, they're wildly expensive and screen tearing doesn't look as bad at high refresh rates anyway.

I'm choosing parts on startpc.co.il and at the moment these are the parts I picked:

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 (considering paying a bit more for 2600X for a more lasting build. I'm not completely sure if it is worth it)

GPU: GTX 1070 (not sure which manufacturer yet, considering 1070 ti)

Motherboard: MSI B450M PRO - M2 (free for suggestions as I have zero knowledge about motherboards)

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16G (2x8G) DDR4 2666Mhz CL16 Red (not sure if frequency is very important, I'll probably switch to just 2400Mhz and spend the difference for a better power supply)

Storage: SSD Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SATA III 5 Years Warranty

Power Supply: Antec VP600P 600W

Monitor: I have problems to choose one, looking for 144hz 1080p 1ms

Case: COUGAR MG110 Windowed

Case cooling: Antec TwoCool 120mm Fan

Software: Windows 10 64 bit English OEM

Looking for suggestions, I have no experience in building gaming PCs. Maybe I need to switch some parts? Maybe I need to buy a CPU fan too? Maybe I missed something(except for keyboard)? And so on. Also as a side note I'm also looking for a possibility to easily sell parts in the future to make any upgrades cheaper, I'm mostly talking about CPU+Motherboard and GPU.

1. Budget & Location

I live in Israel, I allocated ~7000 ILS to build a PC from scratch.

2. Aim

My aim is to run games like PUBG, Rust, Battlefield 1 and so on with >144fps. I'm not really looking for extreme visuals, just want smooth and very responsive gaming. I don't care about RGB and other aesthetics, only pure performance and stability. I'm also going to use the PC for coding and trading forex+stocks.

3. Monitors

Here it is where I have the biggest problem at the moment. I want to buy a 144hz monitor, but my main problem is that I don't know if I need freesync/g-sync or not. StartPC doesn't offer AMD GPUs and the G-Sync monitors have features I'm not really looking for and I don't want to pay double the price just for G-Sync. And for FreeSync I have to buy from another shop like Ivory, but RX Vega 56 is more expensive than gtx 1070 and even most of gtx 1070 ti options.

I really need your help on that one guys, because I'm lost. If screen tearing is not going to be a very big deal and 144hz and some other feature will be able compensate for that I'm ready to pick any recommended monitor from the list. Here are the monitors I considered up to this moment (all are 1080p):

Benq ZOWIE 24'' XL2411 1ms 144Hz

ASUS 24" VG248QE 1ms 144Hz (right now my most likely choice based on really high amazon ratings and enormous amount of reviews compared to the others, but it is hard to choose purely based on that)

AOC 24'' 2460PF 144Hz 1ms FreeSync (has FreeSync, but I'll probably be never able to use, unless I change my choice to any AMD GPU, which are just not worth it here)

Not really sure about this one: MSI MAG24C 1ms 144Hz Curved Adaptive Sync, but included it anyway.

The reason I'm not very sure about choosing any of these is because I know monitors have more variables than just refresh rate, resolution and response time.

4. Peripherals

I'm building from scratch, but I already have a gaming mouse, gaming pad and headphones. Everything else I need to buy.

5. Why are you upgrading?

Because I'm tired of playing on an old laptop and I want an upgradeable computer.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

I don't know, according to http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-8600-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-2600X/m477251vs3956

paying 100 ILS extra for just 4% boost doesn't seem worth it. I think I'll go for Ryzen 5 2600X instead, which is right between 2600 and i5-8600. I'm also planning on streaming from time to time just for fun.

Never mind this, I'll look more deeply into the CPUs. Thank you for your advice.

If you go with ryzen, just get the 2600 and oc it since it'll basically be the 2600x. I'd suggest i5 8600(k) for your use is i7 is out of your budget.

As for the rest of the build,

Get at least 3000 mhz ram.

Get a tier 1-2 psu. The one you chose is pretty low.

You can probably get away with the stock wraith cooler with mild oc if you go with ryzen.
