Essential's issue with T-Mobile

I've read that Essential has connection issues with T-Mobile, that sometimes it doesn't connect at all, sometimes it drops, sometimes it fluctuates terribly. 

 

Is there any known specific region that has this issues, such as the rural parts of the countries? Some of the amazon reviews have said it's worked fine in cities. If I were to get this, do y'all think (if it's even possible to know) if iit would work half decently in the Charlotte area?
