ASUS PG279Q refresh rate

Go to solution Solved by STRESSMASTER,

DP 1.2 supports enough bandwidth to get 1440p at 144 hz. Could you update your drivers to latest? Perhaps something is screwed up there. Also see if there's a refresh rate setting in the monitor OSD; maybe something is messed up there and it's set to something that's not 144 hz.

That doesn't make any sense at all.

Could you stop spreading misinformation? This makes no sense whatsoever. SLI only might impact FPS in games, not the FPS the GPU can output at the desktop.

doc go read the post. I am just restating what the poster of the link I found

Alright, so I just bought an ASUS PG279Q for the new 2080 that I am intending to buy.

However, my current GPU is my aging GTX 760 and after connecting the monitor to it it seems like I can only get 85HZ maximum at 1440p, even after setting a custom resolution. I am using DisplayPort.

I'm assuming that this is the maximum refresh rate my 760 can display on 1440p or is something else wrong?

Using DP.

Sorry, should've put that I'm using DP in the original post.

It appears from the first reply that indeed my 760 can't handle 1440p at 144hz. However the person with the EVGA GTX 760 that Stressmaster linked managed to get 120HZ, but I can't get past 85HZ.

I have the 399.24 drivers installed that I installed about two days ago. It appears that it is still the latest driver on Nvidia's website.

The only refresh rate option I see on the monitor is a Turbo option that is already enabled.

On a side note, since you're upgrading from a measly 760 to a 2080, I'm beginning to wonder if you are going to bottleneck really really hard. What CPU are you using, or will you upgrade that too?

You talking about the pixel clock stuff? SLI doesn't impact that. GTX 760 reaches around 523 MHz which is enough for 1440p 120 hz, which also appears to not be working.

2560x1440/120 seems to be the fastest a single gtx 760 can do period. So make sure you have the DP1.2 protocol enable not the default 1.1.... check the cable is a DP1.2 cable. verify that you have the monitor drivers installed to open up all it's avaliable refreshrates.

It turns out the turbo mode wasn't on in the first place.

120hz does not work either, it will only allow me to go up to 85HZ.

How do I check what display port cable I have? On the cable itself it doesn't say 1.1 or 1.2 anywhere. This is the cable that came with the monitor.

And if I do have the 1.2 cable, how do I make sure I have the DP 1.2 protocol enabled? Also, I've downloaded the latest monitor driver from ASUS' website, but I don't know how to install it. It's not a usual run application install.

UPDATE

I downloaded the latest drivers from ASUS and followed the steps from this thread:

After the driver update I was now able to select 120HZ.

I guess a single GTX 760 can only output 120hz maximum at 1440p.

You could try a little higher. Apparently it should allow up to ~130 hz
