Hi,

For the last month or so I have been using a Dell G7 laptops and I am getting micro freezing when opening up some applications such as chrome.
I am not sure if this is a driver issue or a windows issues. I have done a bit of googling and nothing that I have found seems to make a difference.

I have found a temporary fix which should not be a permanent option.
I have to disable the Dedicated graphics chip and re-enable it if I plan to utilise it in a game or any other applications that benefit from the dedicated Chip.

I should mention I have updated BIOS, Latest drivers on all components, fresh windows install, different HDD's etc.

Would anyone happen to have a permanent solution?

I'm guessing this is optimus related issue?

What's your other gpu?

I've experienced similar case years ago, while Optimus is still new technology, it turns out to be a defective laptop and it went replaced by manufacturer. It was an asus laptop iirc.

Check window event viewer when it happened, probably TDR issue where graphic driver restarted itself.

I don't think it's a faulty motherboard as it's my second unit.

So if it is to do with Optimus, What would you recommend?

Try and claim warranty/rma if it's still available. Since you've tried almost all of the troubleshooting options to no avail.

I am on the phone at the moment to them.
uhm,

However, I have noticed with at least when it does it with opening chrome. I get this log
The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}
 and APPID
{9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276}
 to the user DELL-G7\Andrew SID (S-1-5-21-802298440-90083309-1987246732-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application container Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

UPDATE:

So it looks like windows update "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1803" may have resolved the issue.
However, I am still interested as to know what the event issue above was trying to tell me.

Will see how this goes over the next few days.
