Hey everyone I built my first PC a couple weeks ago and have been running into issues from the beginning. I made sure to have all my drivers updated and tried running a couple games such as Fortnite and Monster Hunter World but they would crash on me. Fortnite would crash randomly because the epic game launcher stopped running and Monster Hunter World would crash at the start menu with error 12 graphic device crashed. Someone suggested checking event viewer and it showed ntdll.dll was causing an issue and reinstalling the file or windows would help but the same issue occurs.

I tried running stress tests to see if I could find hardware issues so I started out with prime95 and everytime I ran the blend test I would get the message "FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4" within a couple seconds of starting for all the workers.

My friends mentioned that there could be an issue with my CPU and I found that thermal paste had gotten onto a few CPU pins and socket holes on the motherboard. I had cleaned and even gotten the CPU and motherboard replaced/reinstalled by a friend who has built multiple PCs and the issue still occurs.

With Aida 64's system stability test, all of them run fine except for the stress system memory. This runs for about 5-10 seconds and then stops due to hardware failure. I was told this could mean an issue with my RAM but I'm not sure how to approach this. Any advice or troubleshooting help would be appreciated as this has been going on for about 2 weeks.

My specs are:

  • Windows 10 Education 64 bit
  • Motherboard: MSI B350 PC MATE (BIOS version 7A34vAE, latest)
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700 @ stock speeds
  • RAM: 2x8GB G.Skill Ripjaws V Series DDR4-3200
  • GPU: EVGA - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB
  • Storage: WD Blue 250 GB SSD boot drive
  • Storage: WD Caviar Blue 1TB storage drive
  • PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750W 80+ Gold

OK first eliminate any source of trouble or possible poinf of failure. ONLY use one ram stick and be sure its in the first motherboard slot, ONLY use boot drive, dont have anything unecessary plugged into powersupply or motherboard. Make sure GPU is in top slot, with display cable plugged into it. ALSO install a temperature monitor, I use coretemp to see if  anything is too toasty (cpu/gpu) . THink about trying a regular windows 10, not education. IF and when you reinstall windows delete all drivers you can, use DDU. Reinstall and make sure windows is updated.
