your running into issues with the utilization of pcie bandwidth because that motherboard does not have a plx chip.

If your 3rd PCIe x 16 slot (electrical 4x) is occupied, you cannot use the bottom most pcie 1x slot.

but there's nothing BUT the wireless card

Can you go into the bios and check the pcie configuration? You should be able to manually configure it.

Go look in the motherboard manual here: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1150/MAXIMUS-VI-HERO/E8181_Maximus_V_Hero.pdf

From page 1-23 and 1-24. The 3rd pcie 1x slot is shared with the asmedia sata controller. If you aren't using those sata ports you have to disable it in the bios.

i actually have the card in the bottommost PHYSICALLY 1x pcie slot, above the 2nd red slot

EDIT: So you moved it to the middle slot?

Yes, but the slot needs to be configured in the bios. I linked the manual. You have to set it up so it doesn't have IRQ conflicts because some devices are shared by default.

Maybe this can clarify what I meant:

I actually forgot it was in the middle slot to begin with

Do you have anything installed in the 3 PCIe x16 slot?

You have to set that slot to operate in x1 mode so the other x1 slots are enabled.

This is under "onboard devices" in the bios.

i've done that, but the program STILL wouldn't work.

The only other thing I could think of is trying a different PCIe slot. If that doesn't work you probably have a bad WiFi card, I would recommend RMA'ing it.

i don't think it's faulty because it has a blue light shining out the back

That is like saying there's nothing wrong with a car because it starts, but the check engine light is on.

Also did you try the card in a different PCIe slot?

Also check for unknown device under device manager following this guide: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/96442-device-manager-finding-unknown-devices.html
