Turns out it was my own stupidity. I solved the processor being locked at 1.2ghz by switching off slow mode on my mb. Now I have it oc and running at 4.3ghz.

I am having trouble over locking my cpu. It is an intel i7 6950x on a MSI x370 titanium motherboard and it is locked at 1.2ghz. Additionally when I try to over lock it in any way, it gets stuck in a boot loop until I reset the bios.

Please help

Thank you

Pc stats:

Intel i7 6950x

gtx 1080

MSI x99a xpower gaming titanium

Toshiba rd400

watercooled system

-Moved to CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory-

Your motherboard is entirely incompatible. You need an X99 motherboard for your system to really work at all.

The Asus X99 Deluxe and X99 Deluxe II are both good options.

Thank you, why is it incompatible? I’m just curious.

X370 is designed for AMD Ryzen processors, you have an Intel processor.

There are a number of more technical reasons, but that's basically the essence of it.

You can't use an Intel processor in an AMD motherboard, and vice versa.

Ah ok.

My bad. That's kind of weird, you shouldn't be locked at 1.2Ghz with a compatible board. Is your BIOS compatible with the 6950X? Also, make sure your BIOS is up to date as well.

I believe it is compatible as my rig has been up and running for some time now. And how would I check for a BIOS update?

You would have to check your current BIOS version against the most recent one listed on MSI's support page for that motherboard.
