Hey there guys, I'm looking for a laptop that runs autocad and maybe does some gaming on the side. I'm not sue on budget, so could you guys assume that I'm looking for something cheap? Thanks.

Gaming laptops will work, but you will need something a little high end with good cooling, it might be worth considering for a cheaper option, the Asus G750 is a good choice.

As for workstation/ autocad laptops look at:

Dell Prescision M4700

HP Elitebook 8560W  (Best overall)

Scan 3XS MGW-20

Workstation Specialist WD-M1760 (Best Value for money) This one is impossible to find online for me

I am in the united states and I am a student. My desktop is fairing me quite well for autocad, but is like something a bit more portable.

I prefer Dell precisions myself just because we have two still in use from circa 2010, one with Quadro FX3800 and the other with FirePro 7740.  Both are working with the autodesk products we are using (maya and autocad).   Although, according to the autodesk cert neither card was listed for Maya.  Only our fx3800 is show as certified for autocad (our FirePro 7740 was not shown on either list but still works).

To be safe, I'd recommend checking that the graphics card that comes with your laptop is on the list for the particular autodesk products you will be using.

You can sometimes find good deals on the Dell Outlet website.  I've not used any of the HP mobile workstations, but I hear good things.

I've foresworn go and dell. Nothing but bad experiences. I'll look into Asus and Lenovo ThinkPads once I get my rig up and running (moving back into dorms today) but I can't be assed on my phone.
