USB booting speed

Using Windows Surface 4 Pro provided by the school but want to remove restrictions by using a USB boot OS. I have a 128gb san disk USB 3.0 I was gonna look into getting USB 3.1 but I think the Surface is USB 3.0

 

Should I think about running it on usb or is there another recommendation?
