Budget of 1300 CAD (Canadian rupies), purposed for web browsing, digital illustration/design, programming, some light gaming. The CPU is free, so I'm kind of building around that.

For monitors, I'm looking at one 144hz 1080p. Peripherals and windows i got covered.

I've been thinking either an RX 570 or a 580 bc my needs arent that big. i might be able to get an msi or gigabyte 580/570 for less than 330 CAD but I'm hoping for some deals to come in the sales season.

Any comments or suggestions are welcomed!

wait what, how did you manage to get that CPU for free?

looks like you are close to maxing out the thermal limit on the cooler you have chosen, its rated for 120W and the CPU itself is rated at 95, not much room for any overclock or raise in room temps, before you get awfully close to the ceiling at max rpm (more noise)

also, the NVMe drive you have found is based on SATA specs, why even bother paying for NVMe if it dont utilize its potential?

very sure you can find cheaper 2.5" SSDs in same capacity with same speed

rest looks fine to me, these where just the things I say stand out the most

I like everything execpt the cooler and the motherboard. When you have a 8086k, you want to be able to overblock and it seens this is cheaping out a bit. Maybe the rog Stix z370 is a better bet? Also a Be Quiet Dark rock 4?

Firstly, the cpu is won from the 8086k giveaway, so i saved a good amount on one aspect. As for the fan, a concern for me would just be the noise of the cpu cooler fan. Is there a better cooler at around the same price? I was looking at the EVO 212, would that be enough?

I'm not really looking to overclock the cpu if it would cost me extra tbh, the motherboard I chose was mainly based on its price and the WIFI. I'm a student still in university, so saving money anywhere is great, and the motherboard suited my needs.

As for the SSD, I'll go for whatever's the cheapest 500GB I can grab instead then. I thought the M.2 was pretty nice since it eliminates having any extra cables.

I was choosing AMD bc of Freesync is cheaper than G-sync tbh. If screen tearing and/or input lag wouldn't be a problem that occurs.

I think it would be a real shame to not use some money on the cooler, you have a budget stretching up to 1300, utilize it.

I would as I said at least change the cooler and the SSD, at least to save your m.2 slot till you can get a real NVMe based drive instead of a sata one.

Why a mini itx board ? Doesn't make much sense when you have an ATX case in your parts list.

The 8086K runs very hot. I would want something like the twin fan Arctic Freezer esport 33 cooler or a Cryorig H5 etc.

Yep, I've changed the SSD. Would you strongly advocate a liquid cooler over an air cooler for this build then? And is that EVGA one well performing in particular? (sorry, havent really looked into liquid cooling).

I was hoping my 1300 budget could cover taxes as well, which isn't that much here in Alberta (5%).

Thanks very much for your help

The motherboard just suited my needs for WIFI. Since I probably wouldn't be overclocking at this point in time, do you have any suggestions for other motherboards?

As for the case, my understanding of it was just that it had good (okay?) airflow and it was priced low.

Would the air coolers operate on the quiet side for this 8086k? or would it still be a better choice

Thanks!

I would do something like this.

Better motherboard and it has built in wifi. The psu is also better quality. Cheaper SSD but it will perform the same as the WD one as they are both SATA.

Changed the case to the Fractal Focus G as it should have better temps due to the mesh front. The Corsair 270R should be fine though if you prefer that one.

The Cryorig H7 is also a notch up from the M9i. Should be fine for a mild overclock as well.
