high refreshrate, or just 60 fps? high refreshrate likes a more powerfull cpu. 1080p 60 fps-> then the gpu is OP AF, but the cpu won't bottleneck (maybe a little, but that depends on the game)

''Do I really need to upgrade?''

the best person that can answer that question is yourself, you either happy with the current performance of your setup or you're not.

so since you're on 1080p and stream occasionally and have a 1070TI i would upgrade the CPU before anything else.

if you want more performance on 1080p with that 1070TI upgrading the CPU is going to gain you more than getting the 1080ti or the newer cards.

some options are

7700k. would be the cheaper upgrade since you have the motherboard for it.

8600k/8700k. would need a new motherboard.

or you can wait for the new 9th gen CPU's that are coming ''soon''.

I play with a 144hz monitor so high refresh is what I would be after but bare in mind I only play games like fortnite or Dayz I might try battlefield but I know that will be more cpu intensive

really want to upgrade to the 1080ti alteast tho, I do understand you tho 100% , I just don't want to buy the new gpu put it in the current system and have a downfall in performance

you won't have a downfall in performance at all with a 1070TI

if you can upgrade the CPU first the prices on the 1080TI will drop since the new cards are about to be launched.

i also was in the same situation as you pretty much, at the time i was running a 4790k+1070, i did get a 1080TI before upgrading the CPU and i did notice a little bit of a boost in performance but nothing crazy. i noticed a huge performance boost when i got the 8700k at 5Ghz that changed everything.

you say you only play games like fortnite, Dayz (battlefield), again at 1080p a 1080TI will of course give you better frames but i can guarantee that you will be disappointed.

if you really want that 1080TI i would at least wait a little bit more for the prices to come down, maybe even get a great deal on a second hand card since people will be selling them soon.

I am using a 7600k as well, overclocked just using the Asus baked in OC'ing on a z270e to "21%". With a 1070ti, and a 1440p monitor at 165hz, I stay easily in the 120fps range on PubG and much more at times depending on the situation in game. I play other games such as War Thunder, Arma3 etc, and have been very happy with the performance. I will say Arma3 gives me problems, i think its mainly their optimization or something because everyone appears to have spotty shitty performance with that game. I know my GPU always seems under untilized looking at my afterburner stat readouts. I too am also thinking about upgrading to a 1080ti though, now that prices are starting to drop considerably, and I was also wondering about potential bottlenecks using the i5 7600k with a 1080ti. if i have to potentially upgrade my CPU as well, then it starts to not be as feasible.

I feel your pain! plus the new series card are not even out for pre order on amazon's UK website yet plus the extra TAX on the cards we will auto pay more. plus I don't know how the new series cards with react to the 7600K.

I imagine the new cards would pair better with a Coffee Lake processor, but i could be wrong, still pretty new at all this. I figure if i can upgrade to a 1080ti on my existing system without too much pain or bottleneck, I'll be happy and ride this system out for a few years until the NEXT gen GPU's come out (i read that this 20** cycle will be shorter than the last 10** cycle), and just build a new system with that GPU and whatever processor's are out. BUT, i am pretty damn happy with 1440 and the frames that I'm getting. the PC industry is even more frustrating than the cycling (mountain bike specifically) industry that i work in. you know that there's always something objectively better right around the corner.
