Chassis Fans - Please help

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

The h_amp header is a header that supports up to 3A as opposed to 1A for the rest of the motherboard fan headers. It's for fans or pumps that require more power.

The ext_fan header is for a fan extension card for more headers: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboard-Accessory/FAN-EXTENSION-CARD/

Splitters are fine as long as you're not using more fans than the splitter can provide. For unpowered splitters, this will depend on the header the splitter is plugged into -- usually up to 1A. Ex: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Akasa-AK-CBFA04-15-Splitter-Cable-Fans/dp/B005FWXWPS

For splitters with an additional molex or sata power connector, they can be plugged into the psu for additional power and can support more fans. Ex: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=2MV-0035-00001

Splitters duplicate the signal from the header the splitter is plugged into to connected fans.

I plan to get the Asus ROG Crosshair VII Hero (Wifi), it apparently has:

- x3 Chassis Fan Connectors

- x1 H_AMP Fan Connector

- x1 EXT_Fan Connector

I understand the first one, and I know the other two are High Ampere fan connector and Extension Fan connector, but I don't know what they are for, could someone please explain?

1.- If I want 6 PWM fans but I only got 3 chassis fan connectors, what do I do?

2.- Are PWM splitters safe?

3.- If they are, is there any recommended brand?

4.- Are all fans connected to a splitter controlled at the same speed?

5.- Is there a limit as to how many fans can I connect to a single chassis fan connector using a splitter?

6.- How do I know such limit?

Thank you very much in advance!

There's 8 total on your board.

Connecting the fans to AIO PUMP, CPU OPT won't make a difference, you can set the speed to follow a specific fan curve or set them manually anyways.

Thank you so much!

So I can connect 7 PWM fans? (without counting the CPU fan connector)

Do you have information on the questions 2 to 5? (just wondering in case I ever need a splitter)
