I'm looking to upgrade an old 1080p LG to a 4k TV but my budget is only £500-$650. Something about 50" would be ideal any help would be appreciated as there's so much choice out there.

TCL 4k with a decent soundbar or speakers.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

I got an LG 4K HDR TV about 4 months ago and it's a decent little TV.

It's by no means got the nicest screen I've ever seen on it but it has decent blacks and the colours are very vibrant compared to the ancient one I replaced with it.

4K works great on my Shield TV and there's a noticeable difference with HDR enabled on my PS4 when compared to my old TV. I have read online that the HDR support isn't actually that good compared to more expensive models but as I've never seen an expensive HDR TV I have no reference point to compare with. It has a game mode that unlike my old TV actually works and it's really clever at auto switching to game mode when required too.

It's running WebOS which is basically Android and it has EVERYTHING built right in. A Freeview tuner, a Freesat tuner, Freeview Play, YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, NowTV and it even has a Sky Store app built in too.

Sound is really good on the internal speakers, good high and low range, full sound and good volume. No need for an extra soundbar.

My one problem with it is the image is VERY washed out when watching SD TV stations, on HD stations it's fine and for UHD the picture is amazing but given the vast majority of TV is still broadcast in SD I thought it was worth mentioning.

Another very tiny niggle is the TV Guide is a bit wierd to use, you have to select a burger menu on the program in the list to actually watch it, clicking on the program listing does nothing and when scrolling down through the channels it seems to jump entire pages for no reason whatsoever. This is very easily worked around by using the quick now & next list instead of the full TV guide however.

Hope this helps, I got it from Argos and it was £320 for the 43" model.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

I'll mainly be using sky TV and my PS4 so the TV guide shouldn't be a problem but I'll definitely look at that TV
