can't get nvidia drivers to load

so i've been messing around with pci-e passthrough, and gotten that to work.

however in the process i seem to have messed up my nvidia drivers. my 780Ti is running on nouveau even though the nvidia drivers are installed...

Can you check the output of lsmod to see if the 'nvidia' module is loaded?
$ lsmod | grep -i "nvidia"

If it isn't, nvidia might be blacklisted in a .conf file in /etc/modprobe.d/

this returned nothing

i checked modprobe.d but it doesn't seem like it's blacklisted.

nouveau may have priority and thus nvidia won't load. You would have to blacklist nouveau first.

tried that a number of times.

weirdly the nvidia 390 driver has issues, but 340 works just fine
