So i just built a new computer (keeping the old PSU and Hard Drive) and everything was turning out fine.

When playing a game however, the frames tend to drop 10-20 frames every 10-15s ish, lasting for about 2 seconds

Windows 10

GA-A320M-S2H

HyperX Fury DDR4 8GB x 1

Ryzen 3 1300x

XFX RX 560 4GB

WD 1TB

EVGA 600W 80+ Bronze

Graphics drivers are up to date and nothing is overclocked (well maybe the graphics card but it was like that)

All the games that are effected so far: Overwatch, League of Legends, Payday 2, Planetside 2, Fortnite

game settings are around mid to high (putting everything on low still causes drops)

using DVI-D cable for monitor on 1600x900 if thats important

You need to back that HDD up ASAP!

Why? is 4 years long enough for a Hard Drive?

so it might be that, maybe try using hard disk sentinal to see the health of your drives

I tried using a different monitor with 1360x768 HDMI

effects got slightly worse

It is not going to be because of your monitor. Have you tried on lower settings?

The possible causes are:

  • Harddrive is packing up,
  • Graphics card could also be dying, but it shouldnt as it is a 560,
  • Could be something to do with your RAm.

important figure in mensa

3-5 years is the average for an average drive.  You should have back ups anyway, but especially with a drive that old.

They mean the hard drive is possibly wearing out. To be clear, 4 years is actually too long to wait for backups. All hard drives are dying the moment they are powered on, thus your data should be backed up from day 1 if you really need it to be safe. Use the 3-2-1 backup method: 3 copies of your data, stored on at least 2 different mediums, with 1 copy stored offsite. And remember, RAID IS NOT A BACKUP.

RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks and is a [very badly implemented] way to use a bunch of disks as a singular larger drive with [allegedly better] failover tolderance should one or multiple drives fail. I'm not the right person to talk to about hardware RAID (er, hardware RAID doesn't actually exist, but I digress) because traditional "hardware" RAID is not worth the trouble of rebuilding a failed array for the non-enterprise market, assuming you can even rebuild your hardware RAID array when it fails. You can learn more by reading wikipedia, or asking about hardware RAID in the Storage section of the forums.
