Hey everyone, I just finished building a PC for my living room and was looking over the motherboard specs.

I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to USB types and such, so I have a few questions.

Here's the motherboard in question:

I was thinking of using a USB cable to extend from the TV to the couch to connect peripherals etc. to it. I have a USB 3.0 Male to Female cable, but will that be enough for USB 3.1 Gen 2? I tried to find cables for USB 3.1 Gen 2 but it all brought me USB C results.

tl;dr will a USB 3.0 extender give full USB 3.1 Gen 2 capabilities from my mother board?

Yes and no. It depends on how long you want to run the cable. Because of the higher speed, it may not transmit reliably over longer distances, but I'm not sure what that limit is.

Otherwise barring distance, they're passive cables so there's no "version compatibility" to speak of.

Thanks for the info!

The cable is 3 Meters which, according to a few sources, seems to be the longest it can go.

Actually, the maximum length for USB 3.1 Gen 2 is only 1 meter. Gen 1 is 3 meters. Keep in mind these lengths include an cable lengths inside the computer.
