so i was thinking about trying to get my 8700k to 5ghz on my asus rog maximus x code motherboard and was wondering if i could possibly do it without delidding it with the corsair H115i and if i can just start with 1.35v and see what happens at 5ghz and if it would even be noticable at all over the standard 4.7 ghz. my temps stop at around 75c at full load with prime95/aida64 on auto voltage and MCE enabled

Followed. I'll be overclocking mine in not too long as well. I'm also going for 5GHz.

I found this, seems like a pretty reasonable increase in performance by going from 4.7GHz to 5.0GHz

Edit: With my voltage set to auto, I was able to push all the way up to 5GHz without breaking 1.3V. Haven't load tested it yet. (Currently using the Intel Stock Cooler from my i5 4690K because my AIO doesn't show up for a few more days.)

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

still thinking about doing this, though if i cant get it 24/7 stable at 5ghz id likely just leave it because i dont find 100-200mhz bump worth it
