PC won't boot when PS/2 trackball mouse plugged in

I usually run a ps/2 optical mouse from my mouse ps/2 port, but after plugging in a trackball mouse, the PC refuses to boot. 
I have tried the mouse in a different computer, and it works fine. I have tried the mouse in the other ps/2 port, but it doesn't work in that either. I think I need the drivers for it, but I will need some kind of aftermarket one, because it will be literally impossible to get them for my motherboard.
