What is bios

i have been researching yt and web to look for that what is bios but I have no idea. When asking about motherboards people say that "that bios is bad, dont buy that" or stuff like that so could someone explain it to me? Please no copy from wikipedia, I have read it and didnt get it. I am absolute beginner at these things

The Bios is essentially the firmware of your motherboard. Kind of like the software that works with and controls your router.

Basic Input Output System.

The core functionality of the system before it boots to your OS. A BIOS stores the details about which device to boot from, the time, which hard drives you have, how much ram, etc.
