Higher refresh rate or higher resolution?

It does also come down to your gaming preference.

Are you more of a competitive gamer, such as LoL, CS:GO, Fortnite, etc (Go for higher refresh rates) 1440p 144hz.

Or are you more of a Triple-A gamer, such as Far Cry, Witcher, etc (Go for higher quality) 4k 60hz.

If you're both, I'd have to say 1440p 144hz is your best bet here. It'll last you a very long time, and you'll have the luxury of high frames and crisp quality at the same time. 4k 60hz, isn't really reliable as of now, and honestly the sacrifice in refresh rates, isn't worth the resolution boost imo.

I’ve never really been too picky about my monitors, but I have been wanting to improve my gaming experience. I have a Titan X Pascal in my rig, so 4K gaming at 60Hz is attainable, but I was thinking that it might be better to get a lower resolution monitor, like a 1440p one, so that I can attain higher framerates, allowing for butter smooth gameplay. So what’s better for the gaming experience: the crispness of a 4K display, or very smooth gameplay?

I think that if you're more worried about your gaming experience then you should focus on refresh rates, not entirely sure but I'd like to see what others have to say.

In my opinion I would make it balanced. If you could achieve 2k 144hz that would be in-between/balanced

But if your gaming go higher refresh rates and if your editing go 4k.

It will depend on these things really:

1. What CPU you have (needs to drive high fps by feeding the GPU)
2. What RAM you have (you need enough of it and it needs to be fast to keep the low fps, higher LOL)
3. What games you play (they are all optimised better or worse)
4. How serious are you about winning those games (as in competitive play)

I found, for me that 1440p is perfect. I tend to play games that allow a max of 90fps stable (most of the time). They are games that require alot of ranged shooting, like Squad, RUST and Escape From Tarkov.

But 4K at 60fps in those titles would not be any real issue as whilst they are first person shooters they are not super flinchy, like cs:go or Insurgency (a game I do play but not so seriously, when I play this I tend to adjust to 120fps fixed and it is better for sure).
