RAM for a Threadripper Build

With so many options out there, I am curious what RAM is the best option for this motherboard

I see it can handle up to DD4 - 3200Mhz , I'd like to get 32GB of RAM in 2 or 4 slots is fine..
SO many mixed reviews, fluctuating pricing and reading about RAM that's not working right with the board or not utilizing the full specs of the RAM without customizing the BIOS.... I'm just trying to build this PC once and do it right without having to return or exchange parts..

RGB IS NOT NECESSARY AT ALL, RATHER DEPENDABILITY AND PROVEN TO WORK , I Don't want to go with 2000 or so MHZ 3000 or higher under $400 for 32gb is a good place to start.

Any help or advice would be great, Thanks in advance

I haven't sitting in my cart, trying to complete the build... I'm open to suggestions to go with a 1950X processor

I hope you havent bought any of these yet becasue TR2 is coming with up to twice the core count (which will cook the VRMs of the Zenith Extreme if you overclock the 32core)

CPU: i7-2600K 4751MHz 1.44V (software) --> 1.47V at the back of the socket Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 (BCLK: 103.3MHz) CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 RAM: Adata XPG 2x8GB DDR3 (XMP: 2133MHz 10-11-11-30 CR2, custom: 2203MHz 10-11-10-26 CR1 tRFC:230 tREFI:14000) GPU: Asus GTX 1070 Dual (Super Jetstream vbios, +70(2025-2088MHz)/+400(8.8Gbps)) SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB (main boot drive), Transcend SSD370 128GB PSU: Seasonic X-660 80+ Gold Case: Antec P110 Silent, 5 intakes 1 exhaust Monitor: AOC G2460PF 1080p 144Hz (150Hz max w/ DP, 121Hz max w/ HDMI) TN panel Keyboard: Logitech G610 Orion (Cherry MX Blue) with SteelSeries Apex M260 keycaps Mouse: BenQ Zowie FK1

Problem with that is.... The CPU will be 2-3x as much as the 1950X current price point which right now is $679 for the 1950x

I'd wait a bit. More boards are dropping soon, so getting the top end board only for it to be tossed aside in a month is... less than ideal.

That's the way it always goes though no? I can get a 1080TI today and tomorrow the 1180's will release :)

Not really. GPUs were a what-if, threadripper 2 and subsequent boards had a clear release path from the start. We KNOW TR2 is coming in August. It's not speculation. I'd just hate for you to get the Zenith now. Esp since I know it's a pain in the butt board from experience. Certainly not worth dropping $470 right now. I have to be on a beta BIOS to run things correctly.

Thanks for the advice, I just saw your build, and it looks nice!!! Sorry you had so many issues, You are not the 1st person to suggest wait until TR2 comes out... Think I will wait a few more weeks and see what happens with the launch prices etc...

Now it's time to find myself a better streaming mic , whether it's a Rode USB, Blue Yetti Pro, Razer"which I like but overpriced IMO" or  Heil PR4O with USB Mixer

then buy 1950x (or TR2 equivalent) after TR2's release. When it's no longer the flagship, it will naturally drop in price.

Another piece of advice if you haven't purchased the board yet, look into the Asrock Tachi board, I've heard Asrock is killing it on the bios update/fix and maybe more responsive to issues.

I wish I had checked the board forum on ASUS' website before I bought mine, as BIOS updates are few an far and most come from "beta" files on a 3rd party site.

Lastly realize this is a E-ATX board, which is going to limit the number of cases that it'll fit in properly.

At worse unless you're getting the board for a steal, I would wait for TR2, just for the board updates, remember TR1 will work or should work in TR2 updated X399 boards and you should get to either pick from some better or more matured boards or if nothing means you're needs buy a gen 1 board. Point is you're close enough to TR2 launch to wait, and maybe just maybe memory will also come down in that time.

Also they may fix the issue with those TURRIBLE LOTUS sockets

Damn near had felt like I was gonna snap the board just getting the chip into it.  Which is the number one reason if I get a 32 core TR2, I would replace the board even if I think it'll handle TR2 just fine.  Took me 40 mins+ just to get the torx screws mounted back with the CPU in.

Aside from that and the Bios/UEFI issues, I love the board, the DIMM.2 is pretty cool, and has a lot of "future" proof options.

As for memory your original question:

I'm running 4 x 4gb Gskill Razer something, their DDR 3000, and I have no issues hitting 3000 with them.  Haven't tried pushing them past that, but did have to put in the setting manually.
