I'm thinking of purchasing an i7 6700k brand new (good price though).

I have an i5 7600k which I run at 5.2ghz (1.325v), which would perform better? I play Overwatch, witcher 3 and battlefield 1 mostly. All@3440×1440 100hz. Would the i7 make a difference? Would it be better for the future?

Thanks.

i5 7600k @5.2ghz 1.39v i7 7700k @5.1ghz 1.39v / Strix z270h / 16gb Trident z RGB 3200mhz CL16 1.35v (2400mhz CL15 kit overclocked) / GTX 1070ti sli both with Arctic Accelero Xtreme iv coolers / EVGA 750w Gold PSU

Samsung cf791 3440x1440 100hz Quantum Dot

Haven't broken something with an OC yet... YET.

Depends on how far the the 6700k might overclock. Having the extra hyper threading has been super nice for me at least. I couldn't honestly say how beneficial it'd be. i7 would be more future proof for those extra 4 cores

i7 will probably give higher 1% and .1% in most games. (This mean when the FPS dip below 100FPS they will dip less hard).

Big benefits in witcher 3 and battlefield 1 not so much in Overwatch.

As far as futureproofness, the quadcore i7 will outlive the quadcore i5. Just bare in mind you already have a cherry picked i5. 5.2Ghz is beyond luck for a 7600K dont expect to dial 5.2Ghz in the 6700K and have it work like a charm out of the box. You will loose probably 200 to 400 Mhz depending on your luck, which shouldnt impact your perfromance since those games are fairly thread balanced.

Its worth as long as you dont intend to buy new rig in less than one year from now.

Thankyou so much for this reply!! And knowing me I probably will end up upgrading in a year or so, because as soon as there's an Intel 8 core for under £400 I'll be on it!

I think you've made my mind up, and saved me some money ? thankyou.
