Hi guys it is me again I was wandering if you guys could tell me what keyboard I should get. Here are the options I have selected if you guys know any other keyboards let me know ok razer blackwidow, Logitech g510, Razer marauder or the alienware tact-x I like these because they have backlit keys. Also if you could tell me why people like mechanical keyboards more that could help I am planning on mostly gaming but also doing a lot of typing. Thanks ~Toxic

Out of the rather poor choices above I'd go with the logitech one.

You might want to look into Coolermaster's CM Storm series, it's mechanical keyboards, that are quite easily accessible compared to something like Ducky and some of them have backlight.

Also www.wasdkeyboards.com does ship custom mechanical keyboards.

The reason people use mechanical keyboards is pretty simple: Once you have touched it, you will realise how really sucky a normal membrane keyboard is. The switches take an average of 50'000'000 hits before they might break [a lot more than membrane], you type faster, and it's a much more satisfying experience to game and type.

Now there's 4 major switch types:

Blue -> Tactile "Click" about half way in medium force required

Brown -> Essentially like Blues with out the noise

Black -> Linear [so no stop until you hit the ground] 50g force required

Reds -> Same as black but a lot less force required

Of course there is more into it but you might wanna read this up yourself.

I'd suggest you go and try mechanical keyboards at your pc store or something.

Keyboard suggestions:

Logitech g710+ [brown]

CM Storm [All avaiable]

Ducky [hard to get]

Filco

Das Keyboard

The 2013 editions of the blackwidow are much better than you give them credit for.

They might be better than the last ones, but that still doesn't mean that they are good, especially comparing their price to what other boards you can get for it.

The ultimate I agree is a waste of money, but for £80 the normal edition is actually a good keyboard

To fix your errors, MX Blacks actually have an average actuation force of 60g, increasing down the keystroke while Reds and Browns require 45g while Blues, 50g with 60g peak
