Modmic pick up issuses

yoshams

I'm having some real trouble with my modmic 4. It cuts out about 3/4 of the way through whatever I am saying on discord. When I look at the mic in windows it doesn't look like it's picking up much of anything. I can turn the gain up but it doesn't fix the problem and it adds a lot of noise.

It seems to me (having worked with xlr equipment before) that the mic isn't getting any power. I don't know. Any help would be much appreciated.

What are you plugging your Mic into? Most Mobos are notorious for having a poor integrated sound card, you could try a USB sound card. Here is the one we recommend

SYBA SD-CM-UAUD {On sale for 5USD)

Also Feel free to hop on to our discord. If you have any questions.

Microphone really shouldn't be able to just cut sound suddenly in the middle of things.

Can you test it in any other computer/laptop?

I have tested it on another rig and it works fine it must be the motherboard.

So that USB sound adapter would likely solve problem.

Though it could be also driver/software bug.

What motherboard you have?

Awww look at our intern working so hard here :). The other thing that can cause a mic to cut mid-talking are loose connections (possibly because there's damage to the MB) or some kind of artificial noise gate that is set incorrectly. Download Audacity, start in safe mode, and do a recording to see if the problem goes away. You may just have the sensitivity on voice activation too high in Discord or some third party program running you forgot about that is noise-gating your mic.

If we've found one thing for sure over the years its that motherboard price and quality has zero impact on their mic-in/line-in quality.
