Video Topic - How does Anti-Cheat work in Games

TunerSteve

How does anti-cheat work in games?

Why does CSGO rely on players to "overwatch" cases instead of an automated system?

Why does Easy Anti-Cheat suck in games like RUST?

I thought there was a video on this already...but I cant seem to find it :P

Been encountering a lot of cheaters lately in RUST and thought itd be great to learn more about how or why anti cheats suck in some cases

because no anti-cheat can detect all cheats.

overwatch allows real players to analyse cases and make a verdict, which is 100% better than any anticheat.

anti-cheat works by defending against known cheat signatures and known cheat methods and checking for modifications to game code in real time. for example - the newest CSGO anticheat update detected cheats that hooked certain visual effects. (for chams, etc.)

eac sucks because it's maintained by a 3rd party, and the anticheat is quite poor in their methods of detection.

the methods it uses to curtail cheating (for example, removing handles and preventing injection of anything but known dlls) can be bypassed by private bypasses and loopholes. for example, in Paladins, EAC could be disabled by disconnecting your internet during the game loading and plugging it back in before the main menu came up and it connected to servers.

EAC has improved in the past few years however, but still can be weaved around using loopholes (eg signed kernelmode drivers that inject into games, rpc bypass, etc). You'll find that if you play on large servers they have access to tools that can ban cheaters really easily. Screenshot tools, etc. EAC runs at kernel level so it has access to literally everything on your system, and EAC have said in the past they're not responsible if shit gets disclosed this way.

long post, but hey - here's your info.
