hello,

recently i bought an e5440 for my friend  is already modded for 775socket, so i installed everything bios microcodes etc, and i boot it up  (btw he has stockcooler)

and i saw the temperature on idle was aroud 60-70 with 1.28vcore  with no overclock (it was already set for some reason) and over 80degrees full load!! so i decided to go in to the bios and try to set voltage on auto so it was around 1.67vcore

and the temperature immediatly drop down to 40-45 in idle and 60-65 full load

so my question is increasing the vcore was supposed to decrease the cpu temperature right? like in oc you increase the vcore to get more stability and less temperature on cpu right?

sry i'm a newbie

he's setup:

e5440 2,8ghz before:q6600

p5q motherboard

8gb ddr2 800mhz

psu 450watt

gtx 750ti

I don't think your problem has anything to do with the voltage. It seems like a thermal paste of heatsink contact issue. The best fix would be to repaste it or better yet get a cheap cooler like the hyper 212 evo. If you don't want to though, repasting might fix your problem. Also make sure that the heatsink is in full contact with the CPU, like check to see if it is screwed in all the way. Before you repaste it though i would set all the CPU bios setting to stock to rule out any voltage variable. Hope this helps.
