Im looking at getting a new build i currently have the following running win 7

CPU: Intel Core i7-2700K
GPU: AMD R9 380 4gb
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 C9 2x8GB
MBD: Asrock H61M-DGS

Im looking to get this with windows 10

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
GPU: Nvidia GTX 1070 8gb
RAM:  16GB Team Group DDR4 3000MHz
MBD: Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3

Ill most likely pick up the gpu first and stick that in the old machine then pick the bits up as i get the funds.

My big queries are on power.  I have a Corsair GS600 in my current build, and that was a prebuilt im not sure how you work out what power supply you will need for a build.  So if someone could show me how to work that out, other than knowing what the GPU needs the card i'm looking at recommends a 500w

My total budget is around £1000-1200 this includes what im hoping to get for my old build.

Any advice would be great im looking for something that will last 3-4 years well then maybe upgrade bits in the last year or so of its life, its what i did with my current.

Im getting the pc to game with still looking for a new monitor in the sub £300 price range so suggestions there would be good as well :)

Many thanks for reading and i hope you can help.
Brian.

If you don't really need more threads, picking up a 980Ti/1070 would be just fine. I also assume you didn't mean 8x8 gb ram.

Thanks for spotting that, also ive not really looking into building a pc for a long time, so im not sure what i need as regards to threads :-)

Threads are virtual cores essentially. The 2700k is a pretty strong performer, and CPUs haven't changed in a while. Ryzen and Coffee Lake were fairly large improvements, but I don't expect anything like that in the near future. I think Ryzen 2 and whatever lake Intel makes next time will just be an incremental transistor shrink.

I think there may be some miscommunication, i need a full build not just a gpu, and ive budgeted about £1000 for the tower and an addition £300 for the monitor, that one at £600 is far too much for me.

Thanks though.

Unless you do video editing, streaming, recording, or something like that, your CPU is fine. The extra like 10 frames you might get are not worth the hundreds of dollars you need for a platform change. Honestly, you could have the best PC ever, and it wouldn't matter if your monitor is trash. I have 2 large, IPS monitors and it is great. 1000 wouldn't get you much anyways, considering how your CPU/RAM setup seems pretty good.
