DisplayPort Audio Lag

Go to solution Solved by Dissitesuxba11s,

I apologize for the necro but I want to at least document how this problem was "solved" for posterity's sake.

TL;DR - Warranty "fixed" it. But it came back temporarily.

As stated above, I tried to use a different, better DP cable but that didn't solve the issue. I reached out to Acer customer support and we went through your typical troubleshooting procedures:

  • Factory reset
  • Plugging in to a different port on the GPU
  • Unplugging from the outlet and pressing the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual electricity

None of these work. I ultimately had to send the monitor in and luckily for me it was still under warranty. When I got it back, the repair notes stated that the repairer wasn't able to recreate the issue so it was sent back. Once I plugged it in, the audio lag was nonexistent, YAY!...

...until recently. This last Saturday, I had an open schedule so I was pretty much on my computer the whole day and night. After dinner, where I put my computer to sleep, I came back to the audio lag when I started watching a video. This was persistent throughout the rest of the night, but after a good night's rest, the audio lag was gone. My theory is that if the monitor is used for a long period of time, something is stressing the speakers, logicboard, or something that is causing the issue. At this point, I don't use it long enough for the issue to comeback since I only use it at night after work so it has become a none issue for me.

I know this is not the "solution" that anyone would like when they find this, but I hope that you can try the troubleshooting procedures first before sending the monitor in for warranty.

I have an X34 and I'm using the included DisplayPort (DP) cable. I've noticed there is some audio lag by about a second when sounds start. Audio is still present, it's just that when watching a video, the first second of audio is not registered. Notifications are also non-existent since they last for about half a second. To troubleshoot that it is the DP cable I switched to HDMI, and lo and behold, no audio lag (tested by quickly changing volume in Windows). So my question is, is it common for DP to have that initial audio lag, and should I get another DP cable or maybe even look into HDMI 2.0 so that I can take advantage of the 100Hz refresh rate of the X34?

Any help is appreciated.

DP cables that are supplied by manufacturers are cheap and low quality. Buy a third party cable from a reputable brand. This should fix your issue.

Had a feeling that was the case, but wanted a second opinion. Good thing good DP cables are fairly affordable. Thank you.
