Hi all, first time poster and first time pc build. I wanted to double check my core voltage at auto and compare it to how it's running in overclock and make sure I'm not doing something dumb.

 

Before changing for overclocking my cpu voltage in bios showed it was at 1.456 on auto, but when researching overclocking I had seen the max really is 1.5 and not advised to set it over 1.4. For the overclock I set it at 1.4 max with 3900mhz for the speed. I have performed some stress tests with intelburn and prime 95. Everything went well and stable, in intelburn the voltage seemed to stay at 1.356 for most of the time, occasionally jumping to 1.375 and then back down immediately. My cpu temp reached no higher than 58 degrees celcius (while idle in oc it sits around 32). I used HWMonitor for the temps and voltage monitoring.

 

I also set the ram at 1.350 and set it to 2933, using memtest for the stressor and monitoring with cpu-z.

I am wondering if I should set the cpu voltage lower when overclocking, as well as when I am not overclocking just to be safe(though I suppose I should ask if people OC whenever they use their pc regardless)? Also would I possibly be able to push my ram to 3200mhz?

Patriot viper 3000mhz (2x4gb)

Evga gtx 1050 sc (single fan not ti..)

Crucial 275gb mx300 ssd

If it matters 3 120mm fans non adjustable speed+wraith cooler on cpu

Of course the lower the voltage the better, as efficiency goes up. You have to do stress test (prime95 is what I use) to prove its stability though.

Did you use XMP/DOCP/AXMP (same thing, different name) to reach 2933?

Did you use XMP/DOCP/AXMP (same thing, different name) to reach 2933?

Okay I will start with 1.375 and then if that is stable move down to 1.350. 

I did not use XMP to go to 2933. I just upped the voltage and changed the frequency to 2933 in the OC menu in bios.

use it, without it your BIOS will use loose memory timings, hurting transfer rate
