monitors So, lets talk about monitors.

When do you guys feel like you really need to upgrade your monitor other than when its dead/faulty. 

 

Me personally i have a 27" 1440p 165hz GSync display (Acer predator) and i really dont see myself upgrade anywhere in the near future. The monitor technology seems to be pretty stagnant with nothing new on the horizon. I dont really feel like its worth upgrading to 4K cause of UI scaling issues in old games which i still play with my friends on weekends. I also do not see anything worthy of upgrade, maybe the upcoming microLED will be awesome and HDR is the new future but as of now they seem to be pretty meh and curved monitors are a pain to work with when you are designing stuff. I actually returned my 32" 4k display and bought this one instead cause the text in some game is so small that it started giving me headaches. I was actually looking forward to buy an OLED monitor before this but that thing never lived up to my expectations and was such a disappointment. 

 

This kinda bothers me as i used to be on the look for the next best thing and look forward for it and i see nothing on this end. I see nothing worthy of upgrading. 

 

So when do you guys usually feel like you really need to upgrade your monitor? What new technologies are you guys looking forward to?

Personally I'm waiting for OLED to finally make it's way to consumer monitors. I upgraded from a massive 22" CRT to my EIZO FG2421 120Hz VA monitor as it offers what I mainly look for in a display; high refresh rate and fantastic contrast (a real 5000:1 in this case). While IPS has gotten a lot better, it won't beat VA for contrast, so for me it's going to have to be OLED. 

 

As far as resolution goes I'm quite fine with 1080p at around 23". 4K would be nice, but I don't think having a 40" screen on my desk would make for a comfortable experience.

I bought my main monitor, 23" 1080p 60Hz TN panel, in late 2011 and I still don't see any reason to upgrade. My other (3) monitors on my main PC are pretty old too, from around 2011-2014.

 

I'm still waiting for a monitor that could beat my old CRT monitors in colors, contrast, response time etc. I do have one monitor with a VA (75Hz) panel, it does look pretty nice if light are on in my room but in dark room blacks doesn't look good at all.

I currently have the Asus MG279Q which I bought last year. I will get another monitor somewhere this year, looking for an ultrawide (>100Hz, IPS, 1440p and not over a 1000 bucks). 

But after that it will probably be about 3-5 years before I get a new one, unless there is a major new advancement (something like holographic oid)
