Check start—>settings—>privacy—>microphone and toggle allow apps to access your microphone

 

I’ve seen recent updates to 1803 turn this on so you’ll be able to test the mic in sound drivers but not work in discord or other communications software.

 

If it’s not that make sure your mic works on other devices and troubleshoot your audio driver
