Does G-Sync actually matter

I'm building my first build in 20 years, i do very editing and graphic work and alot of visual work, I also want to play games, I have a 1080 ti, I really want an ultra wide but don't know is a g-sync monitor a need, but I want the best quality

after about 4 months with a gsync monitor i'm not really impressed by it. even the first time trying wasnt "game changing" as some describe it.
it can be pretty nice in the 100-144hz range but thats about it for me. not a fan of the increased blur at lower refresh rates
