Hey I need help planning for a gaming pc

 

I will be playing games like FO4 and GTA V (Both heavily modded)

Budget is around £300 - £400

Buy a used Dell optiplex off of ebay with a decent CPU and throw in a used graphics card and SSD.

yeah i don't mind used hardware as long as it works and i don't get scammed

ok. you'd be surprised what you can get for that money on the used market. 

 

do you do anything else besides gaming?

Browsing web, streaming vids and i suppose i would prob want to get into mod creation

mod creation i know nothing about, so i don't know what specs you'd need for that... 

 

i assume you're in the UK.. i don't know a lot about the used market there. can you look up what a 2600K with 16gb of ram, a decent board and a decent PSU costs over there? that'll give me a point of reference.

basically, check the requirements of the games you play and the mods you use, and then start looking from there. 

 

something to keep in mind, a build at this budget, even used, won't play everything on very high settings. one of the best price/performance cpu's, the 2600K, is around 40% slower than a 7700K: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-2600K/3647vs621

 

video cards age even faster. i'm quite knowledgeable about old and used hardware, so if you find a system you can always ask me if it's a good deal. 

 

i can't give you specific advice because i'm not familiar with either of the games you mentioned, and i don't know what's available locally where you live. you said you were afraid of getting scammed, so going to pick stuff up is your best bet because most of the time you can then test stuff before you buy it.

remember you can use sites like userbenchmark to compare cpu's, and i recommend https://ark.intel.com/ for comparing intel cpu's. quite often you'll get a listing for a cpu with just the model number. if you look it up there it'll tell you everything. the year of release, socket, architecture etc.

Just FYI, FO4 is very poorly optimized and chews through CPU, GPU, and RAM even unmodded.  Any budget build WILL have issues with it, so below are some helpful videos.  Also, remember to have plenty of extra storage just for mods (~50GB).
