Memory upgrades, IVB?

Im looking at buying new memory and a CPU for my current PC. The motherboard specs are here https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c02978278. I've read places that it supports up to 1333mhz DDR3, yet on other sites it says that it will support 1600mhz but then has IVB in parenthesis. By doing this does this mean that the motherboard will only support ram up to 1600mhz ONLY if an ivy bridge CPU is used? or can I use sandy bridge and stilll use 1600mhz ram?
