I'm looking for a set of headphones to use for mainly gaming and talking on pc and ps4. I'm used to closed back headphones but I am thinking about trying out a pair of open back for the wider sound stage. I like nice bass and treble but not to the point where it makes everything else muddy, so im trying to avoid headsets that lack bass almost completely. I'd like to use the headphones with the v-moda boompro mic also so they need to have a detachable 3.5mm jack but i will take suggestions for others that i could buy a modmic for. I'm looking at the philips shp9500s which are nice and cheap and apparently very good. If anyone has any suggestions they would be very appreciated!

Thought id also add that i like being immersed by the sounds of open world/story games etc. Cheers to any suggestions!

If you already have the Boompro im pretty sure the 9500's are the only headphone that are plug and play with that mic... that being said if you DONT own that mic already there are many other options.

If you looking for Crazy soundstage and immersion and you wont be bothered by outside room noise then Open backs are the way to go!  Sometimes I feel bad I can hear footsteps from so far away on CSGO haha.

Depending on your budget:

Open backs:

Senn HD 6XX (Massdrop)  $200 USD   ***

Senn HD 598 Open   $170 USD  ***

AKG K7XX  (Massdrop) $200 USD

SHP 9500s $80 USD

Closed back:

NVX XPT 100's  $80-100 USD  ***

Brainwaves HM5 $100 USD

Audio Technica M40x w/ Brainwaves HM5 Angled ear pads  $140 ***

Status Audio CB-1 $70 USD

Anything I have put a *** beside are ones I personally own so I can answer more detailed questions about them if needed.

M40x's are a great headphone they HAVE to be paired with the Brainwaves HM5 Angled pads ( Links below ) for them to be comfortable, the pads also add some soundstage, help with isolation, and overall sound signature.

I personally own this exact setup M40x w/ Angled pads and they are my go to headphone if I want something for everything from playing games, listening to ALL types of music, movies, competitive CSGO etc...   Sure they will not have the positional audio of an open back set of cans but they are fantastic for getting immersed into a game, explosions and gunshots sound incredible compared to my Senn HD 558's.  Music listening is also nice with them as you can listen to anything and they sound great.  I can wear these headphones with the upgraded pads for 4+ hours with ease, they also fold up nice and small so there great for travel as well.

Sound good just make sure you get the ANGLED Pads and when you install them the fat part of the pad goes behind your ear.

In terms of a mic,

I use the Massdrop Mini-Mic  Its a modmic alternative that sounds really good, but has a less expensive fastening system..  Some people hate the fastening system but I haven't had as many issues and even when I did have one I just made a better solution... but the mic itself is great for the price.

Ah sweet cheers. Why the angled earpads over any others?

I'm pretty sure it helps with the sound stage by angling the drivers into your ears slightly more, which helps drastically with positional audio in games like pin pointing where footsteps etc are coming from and they improve the comfort so much they feel like a new pair of headphones compared to stock haha.

Also it gives you a better stereo experience when listening to music there doesn't seem to be so much separation it brings it closer to listening to speakers if that makes any sense...

Sorry audio is very subjective but just get the angled pads and try the headphones with the stock ones for a couple songs then switch the pads and listen to the same songs you'll understand what I'm on about haha.

I could be wrong but these are the reasons I would suggest them... and I HAVE tried the non angled pads as well... as I had a pair from a different set of headphones and they did not even sound remotely as good as the angled ones comfort improved obviously but the sound signature of  the headphones stayed the same.
