Hello everyone! Since yesterday I own 8700k and MSI Z370 SLI PLUS. My question is what is a good program to stress test without putting extreme load on the CPU, right now Im running 5.1Ghz at 1.410v and no AVX Offset the stress tests I ran were Prime95 26.6(No avx version) for like 30 minutes and LinX 0.7.0 for like 2-3 minutes and I started to have throttle but no crash or hick ups, also if the AVX Offset is a must at 5.1Ghz ? Thanks!

point of a stress test is putting a extreme load on it..

if you don't want to put a load on it because of temps you should either get better cooling or lower voltages/clocks.

i normally use prime95 26.6, asus real bench, occt, aida64

you can try in prime95 Custom: min and max FTT size both 1344, run FFTs in place

AVX offset 2-3 is fine

Specs: Ryzen 9800X3D 5425MHz - ASUS TUF RTX 4080 super - G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo 64GB 6400MT/s CL26 -  Gigabyte X870 AORUS Elite Wifi7 ICE - Torrent Fractal Design white - EVGA 850W Supernova G2 80+ Gold - Noctua NH-U12A

Yeah but Prime95 and linx keeps spitting errors because Im hitting 100c and throttle, with AVX offset in games the CPU stays at 4.7-4.8 most of the time and because of retarded reasons I dont like it.

If you hit 100°C with prime95 26.6 your cooling solution is not capable of cooling your desired OC at all. AVX offset is not nescessary if you leave enough thermal headroom though. Otherwise you are free to decide to burn your chip whenever you want.

you are free to do what ever you want with your hardware but this is not the proper way of doing this, and definitely not good for your chip and not worth it.

if you really want to run that 5.1GHz either upgrade cooling or delid the chip or even do both.

point of these heavy stress tests are to push the limit and find stability otherwise there's no reason to run them if the first place.

Prime95 26.6 runs fine without issues, right now Im settled at 5.0Ghz with offset voltage -70 which keeps the voltage around 1.384 - 1.420 while gaming and little bit higher when stress testing. The cooler is H100i v2.

This is what i would call an insufficient cooler by any means, its actually a ~180w TDP cooler (the rad isnt much capable of more unless you try to push the 3000rpms permanently). Using it for a CPU that overclocked pulls way over 200watts when using AVX at such a high voltage like yours explains alot. Thanks for the insight.

Im planning to get Celsius S36 or Be Quiet! DARK ROCK PRO 4 next week, all though right now I settled at 5Ghz с 1.385v с LLC3 (voltage doesnt go beyond 1.408v), VCCIO: 1.150v, VCCSA: 1.200v and temperatures are normal while gaming and the H100i on quite mode.

i'm using the S36 right now i do not see temps above 75C ever, this is a delidded 8700k tho.

What overclock ?

5ghz 1.370V, i'm using thermal take riing fans at 900rpm

26.5C ambient

max temps under stress tests i see 75C (these are peaks) but it runs around 65C under full load

Dark Rock Pro 4 has a 250W TDP and its cheaper, but without delid I don't know if its worth getting new cooler, and I don't want to delid because I don't want to loose my warranty.

probably not worth buying better cooler if you dont want to delid. Have you seen one of the latest Jayztwocents videos? He was cooling a system with 4x 480mm rads and a giant Air-Fan. Graphics card in his loop dropped to ambient temperatur but his 8700k still hitted mid 80's°C
