RAM for Ryzen APU?

I'm trying to make an ultra-budget PC build, and I'm hoping to start with a Ryzen 3 2200g and not have a discrete graphics card, but later have the ability to upgrade. I know that the APU pulls RAM from the motherboard, but I'm wondering how much is required. I know 8gb might be pushing it, but I can't find 12gb and the prices for 16gb are through the roof. Is there any alternative? My budget would greatly appreciate a little more room for a better SSD (I have a trash HDD rn also).

What's your budget?
