New Build - Upgrade: Direction

Hi everyone! 

 

I've posted around about several of my components, but I am not quite unhappy with my performance for several different reasons (mainly 6700k cant maintain streaming and gaming, while the gigabyte windforce 980ti  is having trouble maintaining an overclock of any type which cant hold frame at high/ultra quality at 144hz). I am happy with the rest of my components ( Crucial ballistix 16gb 3000, Corsair RM 650 80+ gold, 1TB HDD, 128GB SSD for boot, and 258GB SSD for "important" games). I also do some video editing for school/work but it's never anything crazy (most taxing project was to render & edit a 20 minute 4k  video and downscale it to 1080/720). 

 

That said, I don't know what direction to go in. I enjoy having good frames, but also see that the r5/7 are adequate. Any insights on upgrades/if I should even upgrade. If I do upgrade, I do have a plan to give the old parts to my SO and good friend that is getting into pc gaming, so if I can spare decent hardware and ship it off, I will; especially for a starter rig.

If you are thinking of upgrading what kind of budget do you have$?  Need to know this first to see if it is worth it for you to upgrade now.

Worst case scenario, probably $1200-ish. Again, not looking to have a completely new setup. Just opinions considering my hardware now.

a ryzen 2700 would be my pick since you're doing streaming.

this or a 8700k

also pair it with a gtx 1080 and you should be good to go.
